Volunteering & the Community

Volunteering plays a major role in the Transition Year Programme, with an emphasis on students becoming valuable and contributing members of society. Our students are well known for their community involvement be it collections for charity, tidy towns, visiting nursing homes, making art work for the Old Abbey Lane or starting brand new initiatives within the town.
This year we have been working closely with Tredagh Lodge Day Care Centre, St Mary’s and Boyne View Nursing Homes were the transition year students visit each centre twice a week to chat with the elderly clients, play games and sing songs. All students get involved in this very worthy cause of making friendships across the generations and breaking down social barriers.
