This year’s Transition Year Theme is ‘Pay it Forward’. Teachers across all areas of the curriculum are encouraged to work with this theme in mind. Some examples of the ‘Pay it Forward’ theme in action are;
The students have been tasked with designing and making a giant floor jigsaw project that they will donate to the local primary schools.
At the end of each 5 week module the students bake and decorate cupcakes and then donate to local business/charities as a thank you for the work they do in the community.
The students organised a shoebox appeal in aid of Drogheda Homeless Aid and have introduced a mentoring system for 1st years were they meet on a regular basis through coffee mornings and chat to the 1st Year students about adjusting to life in a new school and any problems that they may encounter.
This theme is set to remind students how important random acts of kindness are in playing a role in creating a positive community spirit and contributing to our society. The theme will change every year but follow the same ethos.
