In any community it is important that all groups have a voice. We have recently reactivated the Student Council as a representative forum for students. The purpose of such a Council is to provide students with a forum to air their views, to involve them in the development of school policies, and engage them in developing the school. The Student Council is invaluable as a student’s view of their working environment can be different to that of a teacher and their input can help build more positive Student-Teacher relationships.
Election to the Student Council took place in Oct. Sixty eight nominees sought election for thirty one places. The Council is now formed and has had several meetings. Its first task will be to organise our annual non-uniform day for charity. Students who wish to participate must contribute €2. You will be notified by text of the date of this event.
The Council meet once a week.
Here are some projects that the Student Council has been involved in for the school year 2009/2010:
- Developing a Constitution for the Student Council.
- Aid for Haiti project: €1700 donated to Bothar for their development project in Haiti in 2009-2010.
- Improving services for students in the school.
- Drama Club.

Here is a list of projects in which the Student Council is currently involved in for the year 2010/2011:
- Fundraising for Pakistan and Myasthenia Gravis: €1200 raised by the student body to be divided between Pakistan and Myasthenia Gravis.
- Developing a student garden in conjunction with the Parents’ Council.
- School soccer tournaments.
- Continuation of the Drama Club.
